When the art of photography did begin on Earth? How come the art of photography originated on Earth? The most plausible answer for both the above question is the idea occurred to the early man when he saw his reflection in a river or a pond. Though it is far from the way it is today, man captured his image he saw in the water and later reproduced that on the walls of the caves and rocks. As it is with any field, from the early days to this day, there is continuous quest to better the ways to capture the image and reproduce them on paper, film and in electronic media. The art of photography really has evolved with time.
What is Photography? The word photography come by the combination of two Greek words namely “photo” means light and “graph” for drawing The first person ever captured an image on a paper, the first ever photograph is by Mr. Joseph Nicephore Niepce in the year 1817. He coated a paper with Silver Chloride which darkened when exposed to light; but the image was not permanent as the light turned entire paper black. Later in the year 1826 he used pewter plate with bitumen and used a pinhole camera to expose the image to this plate The bitumen exposed to light was hardened and the soft bitumen were washed off. University of Texas has this precious first ever photo in their collection.
A series of innovations like box camera, film by Kodak, flash bulbs, automatic cameras and the latest digital cameras are the result of search to improve the image quality in photography Today even a novice can click with the digital cameras images that are sharp and with clear focus.
However the real thrill in photography is to produce your prowess by using the lighting techniques, capturing the objects from a different angle, manually adjusting the focus to get a sharper image and capturing a panoramic view that is almost passable as what one sees with the eyes. In short a photographer see what he is about to capture in his mind first. Then he arranges things like the right camera, focus, lens, light and the angle to make them a reality.
Photography has influenced many fields even when it itself was undergoing changes continuously for the better. Can you imagine a newspaper without photographs? They add credibility; of course in addition to the attractive lay out for the paper. Likewise the precious moments in life like marriage, birthday, house warming and anniversaries are captured and stored as a precious memoir to look back with much awe after years Each of the marriage albums will bring in a string or memories about friends and relatives, some out of touch and some still keep in touch. When the children are grown up and working at a faraway place, the album of the birthday celebrations gives the parents to revive the memories of bringing them up.
A good photograph is never a result of chance. Behind each good photo there is lot of patience, experience and the dedication of the photographer to capture the way you see them. Even the most sophisticated cameras of nowadays are mere tools in the hands of the inexperienced But in the hands of an expert, they become an extension of his mind and eyes that capture a butterfly on a flower, a rising Sun or a water fall cascading to earth.
Dedicated photographers risk their lives to capture the action as it happens in troubled times like that in war, riots and during political unrest Similarly they put their life at risk to capture the wild life in its true color and vibrancy. Every year, honoring the efforts and dedication of photographers awards are given to the best among them. The Pulitzer Prize is famous among them, in the United States for Photo journalism.
