Feather lets you soft edge the border. It is extremely useful when you copy paste object from one image to another. In this tutorial, we are showing you how to feather in Photoshop.
Steps to feather in Photoshop
Step 1: Open the Photoshop program. You can use feather in any version of Adobe Photoshop.
Step 2: Next, open the image where you want to use feather. To do that, click on the File >> Open (Ctrl+O) and select the file you want to open. Then click on the Open button.
Step 3: Next, select the Magnetic Lasso Tool (Shortcut – L) and make selection around the image (object or person).
Step 4: Next, on the menu bar, click on the Select >> Modify >> Feather or simply right-click on the image and select Feather.
Step 5: Next, set the Feather Radius value to 10 pixels and click on the OK button.
Step 6: Next, copy the selected image by clicking on the Edit >> Copy or just press Ctrl + C.
Step 7: Next, create new document by selecting File >> New and then OK.
Step 8: Finally, paste the copied image by simply pressing Ctrl+V or from the menu bar select Edit >> Paste. Finally you will see the feathered image which is beautifully softened with the background. Beside, you can use other background color instead of white. Fill the new color in another layer. That are the complete steps to feather in Photoshop.
Feather will make border around the image soft which blends into another background where you have pasted image.
